2019 Arkathon

The first incubation of the 60 +/- Entrepreneurial Space Initiative, a pioneering and innovative venture, which was born in partnership with the Municipality of Haifa, Zionism 2000 and Migdal, took place last Thursday with the participation of about 20 entrepreneurs, senior citizens and students.

The Hathun (Marathon Initiative Event) was held for senior citizens and constitutes a cross-generational incubator for personal and community growth, inspiring and aspiring to dream, initiating and influencing on the personal, social and economic levels. At Hakaton, six students who came to Israel from leading universities in the United States participated in the summer 2019 internship program, which taught third-year entrepreneurs how to write and build a business plan, design a proper presentation to investigate and analyze a market and more.

Among the ideas that came up at Hakaton were: "Third Friendly", "Clean Table" - a document management and organization company, and a site for the accessibility of unique leisure time for the elderly.

Out of the three finalists:


"Be shoer" - a sensor for shoes to prevent falls - the enterprise won.

Daddysitter - A virtual personal assistant for members of the third age group and their families

The establishment of a business community the entrepreneurs received guidance and the winners received packages of accompaniment.

The Hakaton was part of the activity for the Ayala competition, which is being held for the second year in Haifa. The goal is to make the event determined in Haifa to promote the activities of the third generation from the technological entrepreneurial direction. The event will be a regular event in Haifa. The winner will receive business accompaniment with the interns of our summer program and financial support with an accountant. The fund was established in memory of Dr. Ayala Markman, who was active with the third generation in Haifa. Her family chose to perpetuate her memory by encouraging third-generation initiatives.

Ofer Markman, the husband of the late Dr. Ayala Markman, after whom the fund was founded, told Haye here: "The goal of making Haifa a leader in the third age group is active and proactive. They say Haifa is an aging city, but that's an advantage, and Haifa can lead because Haifa's old people are especially educated. They are technicians with many graduates from universities, research institutes and veterans of Rafael. And also among the pension population in Haifa there are people who can help and understand the needs, open to technology and they themselves are technologists who can contribute their knowledge. "
